Danville Elementary is in School Improvement Status. Due to this status, Danville Elementary students are eligible for Public School Choice and can remain at Danville Elementary or transfer to another district not in School Improvement Status. The following Knox County district/grade combinations are not in school improvement: East Knox Elementary (all grades) and Fredericktown Elementary (grades 3-5). Transportation will be paid for by the Danville School district. There are 399 students eligible. Of these, none have used this program.
Dear Parent/Guardian: To comply with the requirements of the federal government we are giving you a notice that Danville Elementary School has been identified as being in School Improvement (SI) for 2011. School Improvement means the school did not meet Ohio’s goals in reading, mathematics for two or more consecutive years. Danville Elementary School has been identified as in School Improvement based on its past performance on the Ohio Achievement Assessment. Our district did receive an effective rating and did meet Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), however we have not met AYP for 2 consecutive years based on low math scores, low growth in both gifted and special education. Following the federal guidelines regarding the school’s status, we are notifying you that you have the following options:
If you are interested, circle your selected choice from above and send the request to Dan Harper, Superintendent Danville Local School P.O. Box 30 Danville, Ohio 43014. Your request should include the following:
To move our school out of School Improvement status, we have looked at our data and developed a plan to help us achieve higher levels of student performance. Our plan includes professional development for staff in areas of weaknesses as well as creating assessment benchmarks to consistently track where our students have been, are and are going to. We welcome your participation in our academic improvement efforts. For more in formation you may contact Dan Harper Superintendent at 740-599-6116 ext 3229, Tara Bond Elementary Principal ext 4107. Dear Parent/Guardian, Help your child succeed in school – sign up for free tutoring! Because of the No Child Left Behind funding, your child can receive extra help in reading and mathematics. You can receive this free tutoring because your child’s school is in its second year or later of School Improvement, and your family meets the income limits under the law. School Improvement means your school did not meet Ohio’s goals in reading, mathematics, attendance or graduation for two years in a row or more. Your child’s school has been identified for improvement because it has not made Adequate Yearly Progress on Ohio’s Achievement Tests for at least three years in a row. The enclosed district report card shows how your child’s school compares to other schools in our district and state. Your child’s school has been identified as needing improvement because of the scores in mathematics and low growth in gifted and special education. Your school will address this area by offering professional development, researching new reform models and visiting other schools for ideas on how to improve these areas. You are invited to join us, to serve on a committee or to help us in other ways to accomplish this goal. You can now choose a free tutoring program that is best for your child. The district will provide assistance in selecting an approved provider, if requested. A list of approved tutoring programs that wish to offer free tutoring to your child is enclosed, and can also be viewed at: http://dnet01.ode.state.oh.us/ses/ProviderLookup.aspx. These programs have been approved by the Ohio Department of Education and will provide your child with tutoring that is coordinated with what is being taught in your child’s school. The availability of this free tutoring may be limited. Please call Dan Harper 740-599-6116 ext 3229 if you have any questions about these services. If you would like to select a tutor now, you can fill out the enclosed provider selection form and mail it back to Dan Harper PO Box 30 Danville, Ohio 43014. If you choose to take advantage of this the district will notify you of when it starts. Finally, if you do not wish to sign up for these services, you may also choose to transfer your child to another school NOT in School Improvement. See the enclosed Public School Choice letter. Thank you. Dan Harper
