Dear Parents & Guardians: Hello. We, as the 5th-6th grade teaching team are excited to be working with each of your children this year. We will be teaching in a curricular area. The teams are listed below: Mrs. Kim Alspach: Social Studies Mrs. Wendy Colopy: Language Arts Mrs. Amy Huffman: Science Mrs. Beth Kiefer: Reading Mrs. Sharon Proper: Math Mrs. Nancy Dickerson: Intervention Specialist Mrs. Denise Cherrington: Intervention Specialist Agendas: Your child will be given a school planner (agenda) on the first day of school. This must be with your child at all times. It will serve as a homework tablet, as well as a hall pass if needed. Team Homework Policy: All assigned work is due the following day, unless specified otherwise. Because of the importance of homework to keep your child current in the learning process it is important that it be turned in when due. late work will be accepted one day late and will receive half credit. If a child's Individualized Education Plan states extended time this will be honored. Major Assignments Posted: Major assignments will be posted on a bulletin board outside Mrs. Huffman's classroom (Room 017). Please feel free to check the board for project due dates, test dates, and other important information. It will be the student's primary responsibility to check this calendar and to write in his/her daily agenda any important information that is to come home. Absences: It will be the child's responsibility to get any assignments he/she might have missed due to a school absence. 5th/6th Rules/Expectations: 1. Students are expected to come to class with all materials and be prepared to learn. 2. Students will show respect for property and others. Because the above mentioned rules are critical to a positive learning experience the team expects students to follow the above mentioned rules. If this becomes a problem for the student, He/She will be issued a detention to be served after school. Your child's homeroom teacher will notify you if there is a detention issued. Restroom Use: Due to safety, security, and time issues, students will be permitted to use the restroom before school, at lunch, and during homeroom times. This will allow up to 4 restroom visits per day. Should there be a medical need, please send us physician's orders so we can follow these. The 5th/6th grade team is excited about working with you to enhance the success of your child. We, together with you, have high academic and behavioral expectations for each child. Our partnership is critical to your child's success. We thank you in advance for your support during the 09/10 school year. Should you have questions do not hesitate to contact us. Respectfully, The 5th/6th Grade Teams
