What should I do if my student is having trouble in school?
What should you do if your student is having trouble learning in school?  The first step should be contacting the child's teacher.  Many times this communication provides the necessary intervention to enable positive progress for your child.  Sometimes this trouble learning can indicate a disability that is interfering with the child's ability to learn. A team of staff and the parent(s) will determine a plan of structured interventions to be put into place. This intervention will be coordinated and monitored by the special education staff. During this time of intervention, it may be determined that the child should be referred and evaluated for disabilities that are interfering with his/her ability to learn.  For further information regarding this process, please contact our Special Education Coordinator Marilyn Wilford.  The parent's guide, Whose IDEA Is This? provides detailed information on these procedures and is available here.
